A competition diary from Clelia Schwing:

In September, we received an e-mail from the MBA office about a case competition in Sydney and we immediately decided to tackle the challenge. The first step was to win the internal round: 6 teams competed and we were selected to represent Guanghua for the inaugural edition of the Asia-Pacific challenge.

11 teams from Asia-Pacific were selected for the semis. Soon we realized that the teams were very experienced and that the competition will be tough. The overall theme of the competition was expansion in Asia-Pacific and was sponsored by Mastercard. We went through 3 rounds in the semis based on Bundaberg, an Australian start-up in energy Wattblock and Mastercard. The cases were tough, but the additional challenge was the very limited time we had to prepare: between 2 and 3.5 hours. At the end of the first two cases, we were ranked 4th over 11 teams and the scores were very tight. We knew we really needed to outperform the last case to make it to the final round. We eventually participated to the final round and won the competition. We were the best team both according to the jury and the public.

It was an amazing feeling as we worked so hard and felt it was well deserved. I feel especially proud of our achievement because I have the feeling that what made the difference were not our individual skills but our team dynamics. We are first and foremost good friends, sharing the same appetite for intellectual challenges and happy to work together.

The competition is one more amazing memories I will cherish from my MBA at Guanghua and I strongly encourage Guanghua students to participate to the Asia-Pacific challenge next year.
